G-Cash in SM Malls

Monday, March 17th, 2008

In Nov 2004, I wrote about a concept of G-Cash in SM using their POS Converged Machines (Part I):That’s also good news for G-Cash. I can imagine that we will one day be able to pay SM via G-Cash through Mighty POS.

SM won’t need a hundred G-Cash cellphones (one per kahera) to accept G-Cash payments. I imagine that an SM mall will need just one GSM modem connected to the system running Mighty POS’s (Mighty POS’s boss). And here’s my experience in using Smart Money in SM.

Today, I posted this on Pinoy.Tech.Blog:You see those Point-Of-Sale (POS) machines in SM? The machines that slurp your credit card when you make a purchase (I call it slurp, but most call it “swipe”). The integrated machines that accept almost any credit card, debit card, and almost “any” payment card.

Now these POS machines at SM accept G-Cash payments! No, the machines won’t slurp your Globe cellphone (your dog will do that for you). But these POS machines will accept payments via text messaging!

G-Cash to POS payments are currently available at Megamall and will be rolled out in other SM malls “soon”, says a press release on last Sunday’s broadsheets.

Whereas credit card payments are “slurped in” by the POS, G-Cash payments are “texted in” via SMS to SM’s POS system.

After texting in your G-Cash payment, you will receive an SMS requesting confirmation of the payment. Upon sending your confirmation, payment will be debited from your existing G-Cash. I imagine that SM kahera will see the payment received in her cashier’s machine and, possibly, a tape receipt will slither out of the POS machine.

What would increase G-Cash transactions in SM?

For starters, SM could start issuing gift certificates via G-Cash (GC via GC!). Malapit na ang pasko. Sell SM-G-Cash gift certificates to ninongs and ninangs so that they could send these mobile gift certificates to their inaanaks via SMS! How kewl is that, huh?

Sino kayang groovy ninong ko ang mag-sesend sa akin ng G-Cash gift certs?

Other music business blogs I love

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

There certainly is no dearth of music business news out there lately. . .what with all the junk about the music industry’s death and all, you’d think music blogs around the world would all be out looking for new gigs. Maybe writing about petrochemicals is the way to go? Hmm. . .I don’t know. . .

So with all this recent exposure It got me thinking about a few of the music bloggers out there that I like to read, or the online places in general where you could still find excellent commentary about what’s really happening in music instead of what they’re talking about on your late night news channel.

So, with no further adieu, and in no particular order, here are a few that I’m enjoying as of late!

David Beronja’s “The Nashville Feed” is a group blog with with accompanying podcast produced and hosted in Nashville. The site covers topics from music business, events and culture with a Nashville perspective. I like David’s take on a number of things, and the fact that it covers Nashville is also a big bonus for those of you who would like to pick up a job in the Nashville music scene.

Bruce Houghton’s “HypeBot” highlights the current goings on in the new music business a nice interface, some video here and there and and all around good feel with a nice simple reporting style. Bruce is also the President of Skyline Music the home of your favorite lesbian-themed Led Zeppelin rock act; Lez Zeppelin, and one of my favorites: Liquid Soul.

David Hooper is everywhere. Or at least it has seemed that way for me as someone who has been working in the music and internet industry for some time now. He has several sites worth mentioning. . .my two favorites are: Indie Musician, and Music Business Radio.

Bob Lefsetz’ Lefsetz Letter presents the most candid commentary on the music industry available today. And he has been doing it for over 20 years. Always one to pick up on new technologies, Bob’s original paper-written newsletter is now a blog, and his view from 20,000 feet is not only typically right on the mark, but entertaining and insightful as well.

So there you go. Check ‘em out, have fun and see you soon!

At Pfizer: Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Another temperature reading is under way at Cafe Pharma, home to the sample brigade, where Pfizer sales reps are pondering their future. One curious wag wants to know how many plan to leave, given the thousands of jobs being trimmed companywide.

The polling just started and voting continues until April 28, so these are only preliminary results. So far, 20 reps, or 83 percent of those answering the question, say they will walk out the door. Of course, only 24 have replied. And some may have no choice but to leave. On the other hand, this may yield clues about the mood among Pfizer pfolk.

You can review the results here.

Seriously, Rams wrestler is that good

Friday, March 14th, 2008

When you talk to Hillcrest wrestling coach Tommy Bell about Brittany Delgado, he always mentions that she’s very serious about the sport.

That would be just in case anyone happens to think she’s just in it as a novelty act, or just in it to meet boys.

Delgado, a rising senior at Hillcrest, wrestled mostly against boys for a long time, but that was because it was her only option. Now she’s wrestling mostly against girls, and she has proven she’s one of the best in the nation.

She was just named a first-team All-American by TheMat.com.

Girls wrestling is on the rise, and Delgado is right there with it. Both have even better days ahead.

Seriously.

Sanskrit name for Monica Bellucci's baby

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Italian star Monica Bellucci and her husband, French actor Vincent Cassel, became parents over the weekend to their first child, a baby girl named Deva, Bellucci’s agent said on Monday.

“Everybody’s doing well,” the agent, Laurent Gregoire, said. He added that the baby was born in Rome on Sunday, but gave no further details.

Bellucci, a 35-year-old former model, has carved out a healthy film career in her native Italy, in her adopted homeland of France and in Hollywood.

She recently starred in the last two Matrix films and as Mary Magdalene in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ , and is currently shooting a US action movie titled The Lord of War .

She met Cassel, 37, on the set of the 1996 French film The Apartment .

The two have since played opposite each other in other productions, notably a R-rated exploration of violence called Irreversible , the fantasy action picture The Brotherhood of the Wolf and a French espionage drama titled Secret Agents .

The name Deva is of Sanskrit origin and means divine. Full Story

How am I in the Red Light District?

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Sitting in starbuck’s, or how they call it up here ‘Cafe Starbuck’s Coffee,’ which i think is superfluous. I’ve been using the word superfluous a lot lately…..good word! I don’t really know what to talk about so i’m just going to type up some of my comedy ideas. and don’t feel bad if you get confused, that’s the point.

Zone Out Devil:
I’ve been smoking a lot since i’ve been up here, and lately i’ve been zoning out for hours at a time. The other day i put a pizza in the oven and completely forgot about it for 2 hours. I turned off the oven and opened the door to see the damage, and the Devil popped out. He said, “Do you want some Swatches?” I was like, “nah, my phone has the time on it.” “Well, would you like the new Harry Potter book? Not even released yet!!!” “I can wait, Devil. who am I? R.Kelly?” “Well, how bout sex with Lindsey Lohan?” “if i slept with her she’d take my soul anyways.” “Damn that’s right, I am her.”

Hayden:
I want to be Hayden Christianson because eventually he’ll have kids. And inevitably, the day will come when he has to go up to his child and say, “Son……I’m gay.”

Role:
The other day I went up to this girl and said, “I’m a plumber. Let me plumb you!” “Stop it,” she said. “I can’t, baby. That’s how I role….play!”

anyways, i hope you enjoyed those. they have been getting good responses so far. GO TIME!

My Travel Take

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Satisfying the urge to vacation does not need to be something that is difficult to do. In most instances all that is needed is a little careful planning and you can find the resort you need to relieve yourself of the stress your job, family or problems are causing you. So where do you start? You could start by asking a few questions to decide what kind of vacation is right for you.

Do you have kids? Is this vacation about making the whole family happy? If that is the case then a trip to Disney may be the choice for you. Disney is known for it’s theme parks in Orlando and California as well as abroad. However theme parks is not all that they have. Their resort is full of hotels that have many adult activities to enjoy. So while the kids are running through the parks you can be relaxing in one of their spas or getting a massage. The choice is up to you and the choices in Disney are endless.

AladdinHotel - Great Hotel.
CeasarsPalace - Fun Hotel Stay.
LuxorHotel - Top notch.
MGMGrandHotel - Really good place.
MGMHotel - I love to eat here.
MGMLasVegas - The waitresses look awesome!

Maybe your trip is for adults only and you would rather avoid the hoopla of crazy places like Disney. What choice is available to you now? Perhaps a trip to Las Vegas is just what the vacation doctor ordered. Las Vegas is known for it’s gambling casinos. However this is not all that’s there. They have a large array of shows and hotels to enjoy. These hotels include everything you would possibly ever need on a trip. From dozens of selections of eating areas to entertainment and shopping. You could practically stay at your hotel resort on arrival and not travel elsewhere. Not that you would really want to leave. Las Vegas has some of the most exotic looking hotels in the entire world. And since they are usually trying to lure potential gamblers to their hotels usually accommodations, food and entertainment is priced at a very affordable rate.

So whatever your desire is. If you have the urge to get away from it all do so. Trips and vacations can be just what you need to recharge your mental battery.

The TX taken apart

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Soon after the TX was released, 1src members began to think about ways to make it run faster. Of course, overclocking was one of the first things planned and actually is said to work decently well.

Soon, people began to wonder if Palm actually used a 312MHZ version of the CPU or if it was really selling a 400MhZ CPU clocked down to 312. This would have been entirely possible-but it is wrong.

The PalmInsider boys have managed to take apart a TX and posted images online here:
http://palminsider.blogspirit.com/archive/2005/10/17/naked-pictures-of-palm-tx.html
One of the images designates the CPU as an Intel PXA270C5C312. Thus, it is now pretty clear that we are dealing with a 31w2 MhZ CPU and thus probably wont reach the values that we had on our T5’s.

Last but not least, I have an old 2004 set card from Silica-a semiconductor distributor. They state a per-CPU price of 21.40€ for the 312, 24.25€ for 416MhZ and 33.95 for the 520 MhZ version. These prices are valid for 10k units!

What do you think?
